Bali International Film Festival (Balinale) IX is back in town from September 24th-30th 2015 and attended by world class filmmakers and producers.
Farland Chang who was a senior journalist of CNN for the United States and China attended the Balinale 2015 opening at Cinemazz Lippo Mall Kuta. On this occasion he claimed to have fallen in love with Bali, “Bali can make anyone fall in love with its culture and the people.”
The former CNN anchor who has a reporting history that includes Bill Clinton, Jackie Chan, Frank Sinatra, and Princess Diana expressed that Indonesian movie industry, particularly ones highlighting Bali culture could be globally recognised just like the phenomenon of K-pop from South Korea.
“My wife has decided to study Korean language as the effect from watching Korean movies. Same with Bali, its culture could thrive universally because Bali is already an established global favourite tourist destination.” said Farland.
Working as a journalist for 20 years, he thinks that Balinale 2015 can be an inspiration for filmmakers around the world to create more movies. The power of a movie has an important role to increase and promote a country’s film industry.
The event’s theme “Face of Diversity” are films representing the wealth of diversity of people, places, cultures, and beliefs. There are 105 movies from 29 countries presented in the event. The number of films has drastically increased from 60 last year. In addition to that, the festival is also carrying out children social service, and educational programs such as workshops and free seminars.
