Is Bali safe for a single female traveler?

avatar
I'm a 19 year old and am planning to backpack throughout Bali for two weeks.
How safe is the island for a single female traveler staying on a low budget (I plan to stay in guesthouses and the likes)

Oh be careful of your wallet. If you are a girl and carrying a bag, place it in front of your body, not behind. And be careful if you are drunk and without friends to take care of you. I knew someone at a hostel whose wallet stolen at the street. He could not go home because his passport was in his stollen wallet or bag (I forgot). It was pain in the ass to take care of this issue with local government and even with your own embassy. He lost his atm, and passport been staying there for almost 2 months when I was there.

It is safe, just don't trust strangers like admin said. Staying at a hostel also will give you a chance to get to know other single travellers from all around the world.

Traveling in Bali in general is safe for female travellers. I have seen many of them here in Bali and things look quite good. You still need to apply standard safety measurements, just like when your in any other cities in the world. Don't easily trust strangers, always update your family and friends of your whereabouts, protect yourself from potentials criminals by not going out at wee hours after drinking too much and can't be fully aware of your surroundings, etc. Guesthouses are mostly locally owned and the owners normally are friendly people who would always help if you need it. Online communities in Bali are also good resources for getting help and advise. Reach out to Ubud Community or Bali Friendship. One last thing, to ensure your safety, if you can't ride a scooter, don't be tempted to rude one when you're in Bali, just because it's the easiest mode of transport. It's not worth the risk. Enjoy Bali! :)
