I have scoured the island for all of the best hostels in every town and region, but Canggu hostels are definitely my favourite of the bunch. Exuding real tropical island style, each of these options are a comfortable home away from home. Whether you are planning to immerse yourself into hostel life with the other guests, or keep to yourself and explore the town solo, all of the properties I mention are friendly, safe and sunny.
Offering famous surfing beaches, delicious restaurants, cute cafes and lively bars, Canggu is a hub of entertainment and activity. Spend your stay visiting all that the town has to offer, with one of my hostel selections as your cosy island home.
Kos One Hostel – Trendy Central Hostel
I love this Mediterranean style hostel. It’s bright, fun and trendy – perfect for my instagram feed! Kos One Hostel is a young and comfortable hostel located in the heart of Batu Bolong, just steps from restaurants, bars and Old Man’s beach. A great place to stay if you are looking to remain central, and walking distance to amenities – and parties – yet still get a glimpse of beautiful island life. All of the bedrooms are comfortable and cosy with spacious beds, air-conditioning and modern facilities. The perfect hostel, in my opinion! Definitely one of the best hostels in Canggu.
Angels Boutique Hostel – Centrally Located Hostel
A collection of cute bungalows right beside the famous Canggu shortcut, Angels Boutique Hostel is a spacious and airy accommodation, with cosy dormitory bedrooms and luscious tropical gardens. A perfect place to relax and unwind, you can enjoy spending time around the shared swimming pool meeting the other guests and basking in the sun. Centrally located just a few minutes walk, or a moment’s scooter ride away from the most popular restaurants and beaches of Canggu, it is an ideal place to base a Bali adventure.
The Palms – Modern Trendy Getaway
The Palms makes it onto my list of Canggu hostels because despite its modern, trendy style you can still see hints of traditional Bali. Perfectly located on the same street as my favourite salad spot, Crate Cafe, it is peaceful but still close by to all the most popular bars and cafes. A grand swimming pool sits at the centre of the property where you can spend long days in the tropical heat. Featuring cosy private bungalow rooms, or spacious shared dormitory rooms, it is a relaxing retreat for every budget.
Canggu Castle – Convenient Tropical Getaway
Centred around the shared swimming pool, Canggu Castle is a bright and spacious hostel with both private and dormitory-style bedrooms. I love that the communal living areas are by the poolside. If you don’t feel like laying out in the sun but your friends insist, you can chill out in the bar right beside them! Head up to the rooftop as the sun begins to set for a prime view of the sky changing to magnificent colours. Centrally located, tropical and comfortable – what more do you need?
Margarita Surf Hostel – Relaxing Peaceful Retreat
A tropical and comfortable Bali hostel, just a few minutes drive from the centre of town, Margarita Surf Hostel is a chilled and sunny getaway from the busy streets. Looking out over luscious green surroundings, this hostel is a great escape from the built up town where you can relax – but still have easy access to all the amenities. The simple design and layout of the dormitory bedrooms does not make it any less cosy. Spacious communal areas and fun games like a billiard and table tennis table makes this the perfect setting to make new traveller friends. The hostel even has a restaurant on-site so you don’t need to worry about travelling far for a tasty meal.
Dreamsea Surf Camp – Tropical Paradise Hostel
Out of all the Canggu hostels I see, I always lean towards the boho-chic trendy options as my favourites – and Dreamsea Surf Camp is exactly that! A tropical paradise, this hostel features sprawling luscious gardens and a sparkling swimming pool where you can truly relax into island life. The bohemian style decor and cosy bedrooms add the perfect touch of a homey atmosphere so you can really unwind. Offering not only surf lessons, but yoga and fitness sessions, this is a social and lively place to spend a Canggu retreat.
Nyaman Hostel – Away from the Crowds
Hidden away in the rice paddies just a short walk from Echo Beach, Nyaman Hostel is one of the best hostels in Canggu for its serene and tranquil location. Surrounded by expansive fields, this hostel is a relaxing oasis where you can escape the crowds of Canggu. I would love to spend a long trip here where my daily activities are only lounging around the pool and walking to the beach. Heaven! Hosting both mixed and female-only dorms, this is an idyllic and peaceful getaway.
Ngeluwungan Boutique Hostel – Traditional Bali Style
Now, if you are looking for the ‘real Bali’, look no further – with a modern twist Ngeluwungan Boutique Hostel perfectly captures tropical island life. One of the stunning features of this hostel is the outstanding rice paddy views – from the poolside bale, the pool or the villa terrace, you can look out over the expansive luscious greenery, and witness the local farmers working hard to care for their crops. A beautiful villa-style property, this hostel offers a range of dormitory sizes from 6 – 15 bed-rooms.
La Boheme – Island Home from Home
A lot of backpacking life is searching for a comfortable place to call your home from home, and out of these Canggu hostels.. this is it! La Boheme is another villa-style hostel, with open airy communal areas and a shared swimming pool. In the heart of Berawa, it is the perfect location to be able to spend every day at the beach surfing the waves or hanging out at the beach bars. The friendly staff and international guests will quickly feel like family in this cosy accommodation.
Caroline Hostel – Moment’s from the Beach
Location, location, location.. Caroline Hostel may be one of the more basic hostels in this list, but you can’t beat the location! Just a few minutes walk from Echo Beach, it is the perfect place to enjoy a peaceful escape, away from the busy crowds of central Canggu but still just a short drive from the popular restaurants and cafes. Featuring comfortable dormitory bedrooms and an indoor swimming pool, it is a great base for a Canggu adventure.
Draper Startup House – Ideal for Digital Nomads
If you are a budding entrepreneur, freelance digital nomad or a remote worker, this is the perfect hostel environment for you. Bringing together a group of hard-working individuals, Draper Startup House is a thriving hub for people looking to discuss business, learn tricks of the trade and make friends with some other travelling workers. A spacious and breezy island home, the hostel itself is simple in design but features grand communal areas, large working tables and comfortable desks where you can grind away in paradise.

A boho-chic haven, Gypsymoon Bali is a picturesque Instagram dream located just a short drive from the heart of Canggu. Also a villa-style hostel, this cosy home is a perfect place to spend a relaxing Bali escape. The dorm rooms are bright, homey and comfortable, while the communal living areas are spacious and airy. Now you can take your time to look through and see which one would best suit your Canggu stay. Something cosy and homey, or something picturesque and beautiful?
I love the boho-chic styles of Kos One Hostel, Dreamsea Surf Camp and Gypsymoon Bali, but perhaps something more traditional and remote is your idea of paradise.
Whichever you choose you are ensured a memorable, comfortable and tropical stay.
