Ubud is the cultural centre of Bali. It is incredibly popular for staycations, healthy getaways and long, healing escapes.
Whenever I head to Ubud I love to stay in the Sayan region. It’s close to Ayung river, on the hillside overlooking jungle views – the perfect combination of everything tropical.
After a long day of relaxing in the cooler tropical temperatures, an evening of pampering calls. Luckily, Ubud is filled to the brim with massage spots and luxurious spas.
I have a few favourite spas in Ubud, but there are a whole lot more ready to be tried out!
Take a look at these spas in Ubud that offer every type of treatment to get your body cracking, and your skin glowing.
Jaens Spa Ubud
A self-proclaimed relaxation centre, Jaens Spa is a place of calm, serene pampering. Just a short drive from the heart of Ubud, it is a calm place to escape the crowds and enjoy some ‘me-time’ with an array of sumptuous treatments. The spa menu is packed full with different massage techniques, beauty treatments and body scrubs that will leave you feeling brand new.
The Jaens Spa also has a range of indulgent spa packages that range from 3 to 5 hours for the ultimate luxurious experience. The 5 hour Radja Jaens Spa Package features a full body massage, body scrub, facial treatment, manicure and pedicure, and lunch – it is a full afternoon of relaxation and primping!
With their friendly and skilled therapists working tirelessly to ensure you have the most relaxing experience, Jaens Spa is definitely one of the must-try spas in Ubud.
Spa at Maya Ubud
A luxurious jungle resort overlooking the river, Maya Ubud Resort is a tropical haven of tranquility. Encompassed by vast luscious greenery and towering trees, you can leave the crowds behind and retreat to your own private sanctuary. Within this lavish hotel is a luxurious spa open for hotel guests and walk-ins alike.
For a romantic spa experience with your loved one, or some solo luxurious alone time, the Spa at Maya Ubud offers a vast variety of treatments to soothe your body and soul, with the sounds of the running river keeping you calm and centered. Indulge in a traditional Balinese massage, have your face treated with one of their lavish facials or select from their list of spa packages for an ultra-decadent experience.
You can’t beat the feeling of a deep warm flower bath looking out over the trickling river and succulent jungle. At the Spa at Maya Ubud, you are in for a spa experience to remember.
Another luxurious hotel spa, DaLa Spa is located within the extraordinary Alaya Resort. A tropical paradise filled with glistening pools, quiet bales and luscious jungles, it is an ideal place to enjoy a calm getaway with your loved ones, or even just go it solo.
Taking a traditional approach to pampering, you can soak in luxurious floral baths, enjoy traditional rituals for the body, and luxuriate with a spa package that will treat every inch of your body. For a calm and relaxing experience, I recommend the Dala Package – with reflexology, a massage, body scrub, bath and facial, it is 2 hours of decadence.
In the outstanding setting, encompassed by nature and vast jungle views, it is the perfect place to escape your day-to-day life for a real spa retreat.
Bali Botanica Day Spa
Hidden away from the crowds of central Ubud, Bali Botanica Day Spa is an escape to the jungle, with its natural surroundings providing the ultimate tranquil retreat. Looking out over luscious greenery and a rolling creek, you can immerse yourself in the sounds and smells of the jungle, connecting with nature. Known for its Ayurvedic Chakra Dhara massage, people come from all over the island to enjoy the healing and talented skills of the therapists.
The Bodhypnosis Treatment is one of the most unique offerings at the spa. Your body will fall into a meditative state where you are able to disconnect from your mind, and let your body begin its natural healing process. The highly trained professional therapists will apply pressure and keep you relaxed throughout the treatment. You will come away feeling happier, content and at peace. It’s a heavenly experience that shouldn’t be missed!
If you are looking for a holistic wellness centre, this is one of the best spas in Ubud.
Karsa Spa is one of my favourite spas in Ubud. Located along the famous Campuhan Ridge Walk, among lush jungles, it is the perfect retreat from the busy roads of downtown Ubud. Explore the Campuhan Ridge pathway to reach the spa by foot, or drive through the nearby village – whichever way you choose, the hidden gem is worth the journey.
Offering a menu of holistic and traditional Balinese treatments, this is a beautiful place to go if you are looking to be introduced to the world of reiki and self-healing. Their famous intuitive heart massage begins with reiki to open your aura and chakras, as well as bringing you to your highest state, ensuring you are present. The knowledgeable and skilled therapists will work on your knots, finding any tensions and working them out. For someone who is stressed and needs a release, the combination of reiki and Balinese massage will work wonders.
Thanks to its stunning location and friendly staff, I would definitely call Karsa Spa one of the best spas in Ubud.
Tejas Spa is so good they have multiple locations just around Ubud. Focusing on Ayurvedic medicines and holistic methods of pampering, it is a place where you can come to relax and heal. Their Monkey Forest spa is set right in the heart of Ubud, ideal for a last minute appointment or walk-in session. With just one step through the door, you will be transported to a serene, gentle paradise.
The Tejas Spa menu is packed full with treatments that offer healing and connection. With the use of medicated oils, each massage feels like a healing experience. Lose your worries and tensions with the talented hands of the masseurs working your muscles. I highly recommend the reflexology, your whole body will feel relaxed after some skilfully pressed pressure points.
For a long extended indulgence, you can select from their wellness packages that includes massage therapy, foot massage and floral bath. If you are going to treat yourself, it should definitely be at one of the Tejas Spas.
This Ubud traditional spa is one of the more local spots on my list, Shambala Spa is the place to go for an affordable, yet sumptuous experience. Boasting one of the best massages in Ubud, you can entrust your knots and kinks into the hands of the highly trained therapists.
Treat yourself to multiple signature treatments without breaking the bank. If you are looking to have a pampering day on a budget, Shambala is the perfect spot. No matter what you choose from their menu of massages, facials and sound healings, you are promised a calm and enjoyable experience.
Putri Bali Spa
You know all those pictures you see on Instagram of beautiful flower baths with a stunning intricate design in petals – Putri Bali Spa offers exactly that! In among their menu of massages, facial treatments and nail options is a petal bath where you can soak in warm refreshing water solo, or with your loved one, in a tropical garden. A calm jacuzzi bath is a relaxing experience that everyone must do at least once in Bali, and this safe and comfortable environment is the perfect place.
I also love the Spice Bath package that is up for grabs. It is a traditional Balinese massage with an aromatic oil, followed by a spice body scrub, ending with a luxurious soak in a warm bath. This is your chance to really disconnect and spend some time concentrating on you, pampering yourself. We all need it once in a while.
Ubud Traditional Spa
Just a 10 minute drive from Ubud Palace, Ubud Traditional Spa does what it says on the tin. It offers a spectacular menu of traditional Balinese treatments including their unique ‘rice farmer massage’.
Inspired by the massage techniques used by rice farmer’s wives after a day in the fields, they mix coconut oil with organic sea salt to massage and exfoliate with deep pressure and specialised arm movements. As well as a royal Ubud massage and traditional Balinese massage, this is one of the best spas to head to after hiking Mount Batur, trekking the rice paddies and simply relaxing by your villa pool – we don’t discriminate.
The Kayma Spa
Residing in a tropical green garden just a short walk from the Monkey Forest, The Kayma Spa is a place of serenity and rejuvenation. Using all natural products throughout all their treatments to reap the benefits of the earth, the spa has a local feel, and prices, but shines when it comes to skills and techniques.
You can’t visit The Kayma Spa without trying out the volcanic wrap treatment. Enjoy a hot stone massage, finishing with a coconut bath. An all natural and luxurious, it is a treatment lasting 2 hours for only IDR350,000!
For a relaxing sumptuous spa experience, without the hefty price tag, The Kayma Spa is one of the best spas in Ubud.
Sacred River Spa at The Four Seasons Resort
Jumping from affordable experiences, to the height of luxury and decadence – next we have the Sacred River Spa at The Four Seasons Resort.
I have stayed in the Sayan area a few times, and have often driven past The Four Seasons wondering if the experience is really worth the price, well.. I am happy – but my wallet isn’t – to announce that it most definitely is. From the moment you step into the resort there is an air of relaxation that you can’t find anywhere else. The friendly helpful staff, the stunning scenery and unbeatable amenities makes it a place worth the bucks, the spa centre included.
Sacred River Spa looks out over Ayung River, with the natural running water sounds acting as the calming background music to the beautiful space. In their private treatment pavilions, you can enjoy a one-off treatment or have an all-in wellness retreat. Immerse yourself in relaxation and indulgence.
Surrounded by lily ponds and thick jungle, it is the ultimate peaceful setting for wellness activities, as well as spa treatments. Take part in chakra ceremonies, healing sessions and meet with the visiting healing practitioners. If you are looking to connect with your mind, body and soul in an ultra-luxurious setting, Sacred River Spa is a wonderland. Totally worth the expense!
With traditional Balinese bales, and jungle surroundings, Kayumanis Spa is an idyllic escape from town. Another of the more luxurious spas on this list, the extra cost comes with lots of sumptuous additions. You can be pampered at the jungle’s edge with the open bales allowing in a tropical cool breeze to accompany your massage. Be lulled into a peaceful slumber by the Ayung River trickling by and the skilled hands of the masseuse easing out your knots.
If you are searching to have a pampering experience alone, or with your partner, there are a range of treatments that can be done solo or with your loved one.
For an elegant and romantic time, Kayumanis is one of the best spots, and offers the most scenic massage treatments in Ubud.
The Heaven and Earth Spa
When I first saw the spa at The Mansion Resort, my reaction was WOW. Aptly named The Heaven and Earth Spa, they hit the nail on the head – heaven indeed. Combining wellness, medical needs and spa treatments, it offers everything under the sun for a lavish time.
Whether you want to stick to your favourite treatment, or try something new, The Heaven and Earth Spa has something to meet your requirements. Relax into the hands of the talented masseuse for a traditional Balinese massage, try out an ancient stick massage using age-old techniques, or step out of the box with some acupressure and hot cupping – and that is only the massage options! There are facials, beauty treatments, holistic treatments and sound healing, and let’s not forget to mention the spa packages filled with a little bit of everything.
For a decadent, indulgent and outstanding experience, Heaven and Earth Spa is a must-try!
Spa at The Samaya Ubud
We are going to be ending this spa journey on another 5* resort – The Samaya Ubud. Along with the usual offerings, their menu has a selection of packages that are 2 to 4 hours long packed with pampering sessions and long soaking baths that will leave you feeling revitalised. Ideal for a romantic honeymoon activity, you can spend a relaxing lavish time with your partner being soothed and treated like royalty.
In a stunning setting with lush greenery and tropical jungles, the rushing river and quaint lily ponds, you can wander the grounds and immerse yourself in the luxurious atmosphere. The Spa at The Samaya Ubud offers a magnificent experience you will never forget.
Sang Spa and Yoga Centre
A home for all things relaxing, Sang Spa and Yoga Centre is ideally located in downtown Ubud, just a few moment’s drive from the Monkey Forest. Exuding a comfortable, chilled atmosphere it is a perfect place to retreat to for a serene spa day.
The Sang Spa has an extensive menu filled with a variety of different massages, hair treatments, nail appointments, body treatments and facials to pamper every part of your body. You can have your tension knots worked out by the talented and skilled local masseurs, and your face buffed and primped in one of the signature facials. Ideal for escaping the sun in the afternoon, or a post yoga session treat, The Sang Spa boasts the best massages in Ubud.
As well as their varied spa treatments, Sang Spa and Yoga Centre is a hub of yoga activity offering daily classes and immersive retreats. They also have traditional Balinese healer sessions! You will travel to a local village to meet a local healer who can help to ease any aches and pains using traditional techniques and natural medicines, or can help you make sense of some crazy thoughts – healing isn’t just for the body.
If you are looking for a real Balinese massage, or some deeper wellness, I highly recommend trying out one of the Sang Spa treatments.
Sang Spa and Yoga Centre is currently closed (JUL 2022) but we are hoping it’ll open up again soon as it is a gem!
Woah! We just covered a lot of ground – massages, top luxury resort spas, cheaper local spots, reiki – Ubud really has it all!
It’s near impossible to spend any amount of time in the heart of Bali without treating yourself to one treatment, and if I were to choose, I would definitely recommend a tried and true Balinese massage – you can’t go wrong no matter which spa, even just a local small place off the beaten track.
I will definitely be treating myself to some time at the Sacred River Spa very soon! I can’t wait to relax to the sounds of the river as all the tension is massaged from my limbs.
If these places haven’t convinced you to treat yourself to a spa day – well, you can’t knock it till you try it!
