Ah, Canggu – home to epic surf beaches, stylish independent boutiques and a wealth of bars where you can party the night away.
A hotspot for backpackers, budget travellers and those who love a drink, it is also jam-packed with quaint, quiet cafes where you can cure your hangover, and sip some of the best coffee on the island.
If you’ve had a long night, need somewhere peaceful to catch up on work, or are meeting up with friends for a gossiping brunch, the cafes in Canggu are perfect!
Vegan, Instagrammable, cheap and cheerful, there are so many nice cafes in Canggu. These are just a handful of my favourites.
Best All-Rounder
Nude
Nüde is one of my favourite cafes in Canggu, and the spot where you will most likely find me after a big night out.
Perfect for vegans, carnivores and coffee-lovers, the menu has a huge selection of tasty breakfasts and brunch-friendly salads and sandwiches.
With options for sitting indoors and out, you can relax in the cool air-conditioning, or bask in a Balinese tropical breeze.
Located on Jl Pantai Berawa, in the thriving Berawa cafe scene, you are sure to bump into some friends.
There is a fridge stocked up with tasty cakes and sweet treats, a vast choice of fresh juices and smoothies, and a hands-on service which won’t have you waiting around.
If you are looking for a spot to become your regular Sunday morning coffee place, I highly recommend Nüde.
Matcha Lovers Dream
Matcha pancakes, matcha protein balls, matcha yogurt, matcha banana bread – when you thought it could only be a delicious creamy drink, Matcha Cafe is here to prove you wrong.
This open and bright space is located just a moment’s drive from Berawa beach for pre-surf caffeine and energy boosters, or post-work out pick-me-ups.
Healthy, fresh and always tasty, it is one of the best cafes for getting a snack, spending a few hours on your laptop, enjoying rice paddy views, and the hustle and bustle of Berawa.
You can even drag your less Matcha convinced mates along, as there are plenty of options that don’t include the green treasure.
Comfortable and Trendy Space
Synkonah
A cafe-bar-restaurant, Synkonah ticks all the boxes for all-day dining and coffees.
Just moment’s from Berawa beach, with ocean views from the second level balcony, it is a breezy and spacious cafe in Canggu where you can get your morning caffeine fix, tuck into a delicious and colourful smoothie bowl, or fill up on a Sunday roast.
The breakfast menu is packed with fruity sweet treats and savoury plates that will fill you up for a day of activities.
Whether you fancy something simple to start your day, or want to go all in on a huge feast, Synkonah has an impressive menu to satisfy all.
For lunch and dinner there is a whole array of small plates, sharing boards and decadent plates that are flavourful and delicious.
And, if that isn’t enough, as the evening draws in the cafe becomes a gin bar with a grand list of cocktails, wines and boozy drinks.
Let’s not forget the gorge-worthy Sunday roast.

The Must-Try Spot
Crate Cafe
A must-try and must-be-seen at spot, Crate Cafe is an influencer dream with its simple, minimalist aesthetic.
Originally conceptualised in an industrial crate – hence its name – it has since grown into a huge cafe with an attached gallery and boutique.
Their menu is etched into the wall and is famed for its smoothie bowls, impressive salads and ice slushy coffees.
Order up and take a seat to people watch, and enjoy the flowing breeze.
There are spots outside in the sun, and shady balcony seats, as well as the picnic benches and sofas inside.
Browse the independent brand boutique filled with beautiful treasures, and treat yourself to some local art.
Crate Cafe is one of the spots that needs to be tried at least once.
Health Food Haven
Cafe Vida
For those on the island who are trying to watch what they eat and only want the healthiest, freshest, most nutritious options – Cafe Vida is an ideal place to go.
One of Canggu’s health cafes, the menu is full of salads, bowls, smoothies and meals that are colourful with fresh vegetables, full of flavour and will give you some natural, healthy energy.
The relaxed vibe is perfect for a Bali digital nomad moment on your laptop, or a quiet solo coffee reading your favourite book.
There is an outdoor space where you can enjoy more of a tropical breeze in a traditional Balinese garden setting, or sit by the window to watch the hectic Canggu world go by.
Cafe Vida is one of my favourite cafes to spend a peaceful minute – or 20 – alone with a coffee.
The Canggu Staple
Thanks to the mouthwatering menu, relaxed atmosphere and tropical Balinese style, Koloni Cafe is a favourite among the ‘Gu gang.
Perfect for early morning coffees and juices, a late lunch or catching up with friends, the space is breezy, bright and open with lush gardens where you can really immerse in the chill island vibe.
Serving up tacos, burgers, salads, smoothie bowls, and so many other delicious delights, there is something to suit everyone – even the fussiest of eaters.
Set up your laptop in front of the mural wall, or sit out in the cool gardens with your loved ones and find out why Koloni has such a dedicated cult following.
Honestly, its a must-do thing in Canggu.
Best Plant Based Spot
Canggu is full of vegans, so you will find plenty of spots throughout the town catering to the specialised diet.
But, the must-try vegan cafe in Canggu, in my opinion, is I am Vegan Babe.
Their menu is packed with all your usual favourites with a vegan twist including Mexican dishes, burgers, wraps and bowls.
Using local fresh ingredients and stunning presentation, you can’t resist whipping out your phone to take pictures of your meal before you dig in.
The modern boho style and comfortable furnishings make it easy to spend a long day on your laptop getting all your tasks done while digging into some guilt-free snacks.
Island-Wide Fave
Cafe Organic
Cafe Organic is a well-known name across Bali with multiple cafes around the island.
A vegetarian haven with a full menu of Western classics, if you are looking for some healthy, tasty and fresh meals, this is a great place.
The Canggu branch is located on Batu Bolong, just a short drive from the beach for post-beach snacks and pre-surf fuel.
Dig into falafel pockets, parmesan fries, smoothie bowls and avocado toast in the relaxed island setting.
They also offer a wide variety of coffee options that will make any coffee-lover swoon. Taro lattes, mermaid lattes and matcha lattes add a touch of colour to your usual morning fix.
Stop by with friends for a quick catch up, or long brunch with plenty of snacks, drinks and juices. What better way to spend an island morning?
Pastry Galore
You don’t need to miss out on your usual morning pastry while living your island dream.
Baked prepares the most delicious and flakey pastries on site including croissants, pain au chocolats and Portuguese tarts.
Opening up at 7am for the early risers, you can stop by to pick up a to-go coffee and pastry, or hang around the spacious open cafe, people watching and enjoying the hustle and bustle.
Just a short drive from the beach, it is a perfect pre-surf pit stop for some fuel to tackle the waves.
The cosy cafe in Canggu has a menu of delicious breakfasts incorporating their handmade fresh bread into the dishes.
A great place for working, escaping and a solo caffeine fix, Baked is a chill Canggu hang out.

Shady Shack
Like I mentioned, Canggu is full of vegan and vegetarian cafes that offer fresh healthy meals, and The Shady Shack is one of the best in town.
With a huge varied menu, relaxed chilled vibe and views over lush rice paddies, it is a perfect spot to start an island morning or grab lunch with friends.
Dig into colourful salads, sweet treats, protein smoothies and vegetable wraps with a tropical breeze blowing by.
Just a moment’s drive from thriving Batu Bolong, it is a happening spot that is still peaceful.
For healthy, guilt-free feasts, order up all the small bite plates and sip ice-cold beers with your loved ones before heading out for a night on the town.
Best Coffee in Town
Hungry Bird
It’s hard to find bad coffee in Canggu.
The wide variety of beans available throughout Indonesia has made Bali a hub for amazing coffees, and one of my personal favourites is served up at Hungry Bird.
With their own branded beans – hailing from Ethiopia and Brazil, as well as around Indonesia – you are guaranteed a delicious cup of coffee, latte, cappuccino or iced coffee, every time. And with a side of tasty cake, you can’t go wrong.
A great place to catch up on your emails and gaze at the world passing by, Hungry Bird is located in the heart of Berawa, just a short drive from the beach.

For working, socialising, relaxing or fueling up, Canggu is full of cafes – these are just my favourites, there are so many more!
