The island is a surfer’s haven, boasting stunning beaches with pristine white sands, crystal-clear turquoise waters, and vibrant beach bars.
It lures in visitors with its magnificent waterfalls, beautiful viewpoints, and luscious jungles. The places to stay on the tropical island range from luxurious villas to sociable hostels, and enchanting jungle guesthouses.

Kuta Lombok – A Surfers Paradise
Kuta Lombok is the top destination in Lombok for young travellers.
The vibrant area is packed with a load of incredible activities, spots to explore, vibrant bars and restaurants.
On my visit to Kuta, I was amazed by the variety of different activities. Not a day went by where I didn’t find something new to explore.
Join along on adrenaline-pumping activities like kite surfing, scuba-diving, and stand-up paddle boarding, or, unwind at a tranquil yoga class. Kuta Lombok is basically like a seaside town in Bali with lots of things to keep your days interesting. But, if you are more of a lounge on the sand girly, you can totally do that too!
When you get peckish there is a little bit of everything. Local warungs, budget spots, fine dining, and all that’s in-between. If you want something super special, find a beachside restaurant for sunset sips and bites – you won’t regret it.
If you are heading to Lombok for the surfing, Kuta is an amazing place to base yourself. You will have easy access to the beach, killer waves and little beachside shacks for board rental and a post-surf coconut.

Kabila Villas is beautiful place to stay in Lombok, just a short stroll away from Kuta Beach. Senggigi – The Gateway to Exploring Lombok
Senggigi is known for being the tourist hub of Lombok, and has the largest selection of accommodation options on the island! From five-star hotels to boutique villas and hostels, there is a little slice of accommodation heaven for everyone.
Senggigi itself isn’t home too much more than cool cafes, lively bars and some tourist activities. If you are searching for a more local and immersive stay in Lombok, Senggigi isn’t for you.
Lined with an unbroken expanse of pristine sandy beaches, you can rest, relax and lounge in total island paradise. The beaches near Senggigi are some of the best on the island, with silky white sands meeting shimmering turquoise waters. If you’re looking for a killer insta-pic, this is where you’ll get it!
If you’re a budget backpacker, this may not be the best spot for you to stay, but you can certainly stop by for a day on the beach.
Stunning Infinity Pool in Senggigi
Perched overlooking miles of luscious scenery, Villa Marley has breathtaking views. Despite feeling like you’ve been whisked away to a tropical oasis, it is in a fantastic location for exploring close to top landmarks like Montong Beach and Makam Batu Layar. The 3-bedroom villa is an idyllic accommodation for a small family or group of friends.
Boutique Beachfront Hotel in Senggigi
Situated along the Batu Layar hillside and just a 10-minute walk from Senggigi Beach, Sunset Lavina has one of the most stunning places to sty in Senggigi. The boutique beachfront hotel has only five rooms, creating an exclusive atmosphere. Each private room features stunning decorations and plush furnishings, and comes with either a private terrace or balcony with views overlooking the pool or ocean. Sounds idyllic right?

Tanjung – A Destination to Unwind and Bathe in the Sun
Tanjung is one of the most beautiful places to stay in Lombok, luring in visitors with its pristine white sand beach, jaw-dropping coastlines, and breathtaking viewpoints.
The best attraction in Tanjung is the incredible Tanjung Aan Beach, where white sands ooze into the sparkling blue waters.
While not being as well equipped for tourists as its neighbour, Senggigi, there is still an amazing array of traditional restaurants, vibrant bars, and hip cafes in Tanjung for travellers to enjoy. The accommodation options in Tanjung are certainly not lacking. There are luxury beach resorts, stunning tropical villas, and budget-friendly lodges.
During a stay in Tanjung you can have sun-soaked beach days, leisurely waterfront strolls, and rejuvenating yoga classes. It is an ideal getaway for those who want to relax and move away from the stresses of everyday life.

Senaru – A Tropical Paradise in Northern Lombok
Situated at the foot of Mount Rinjani, Senaru is an outdoor adventure lovers’ haven! The beautiful village has many of Lombok’s best hiking trails, and is an ideal starting point for those embarking on the trek to the summit of Mount Rinjani. The activities in Senaru most certainly aren’t for the light-hearted, but if you fancy pushing yourself I’d definitely recommend a visit.
The village has many accommodation options, most of which have a stripped-back feel to them. You’ll find a selection of homestays, villas and hotels in Senaru that have breathtaking views of the surrounding tropical fields. Located away from the bustling crowds, this hidden gem allows you to fully immerse in nature and unwind from everyday life.
Visiting Senaru also allows travellers to delve into the traditions of the Sasak people, an experience I would highly recommend on a trip to Lombok.
A Tropical Lodge in Senaru
Rinjani Lodge is a beautiful eco-lodge with stunningly decorated rooms, a tasty restaurant, and a gorgeous outdoor pool that overlooks the luscious landscapes surrounding Senaru. Not only does Rinjani Lodge have some pretty epic facilities, it is also just a short distance from some of the Senaru’s hotspots including the spectacular Rinjani National Park and traditional Sasak Village of Dusun Senari. I’d 100% recommend visiting the local village if you want an authentic Lombok experience.

Mataram – The Perfect Blend of Cultural and Modern Tourism
When it comes to where to stay in Lombok for a bit of everything, Mataram is the one. It might not be the most glamorous and picturesque place to stay, but it is an excellent base to be able to hit all the other must-see sights on the island.
In Mataram, you can expect to take leisurely strolls through its charming markets, spend evenings watching the most incredible sunsets on the beach, and visit fascinating historical spots.
The capital of Lombok is often overlooked by tourists when they’re deciding on where to stay in Lombok, however, if you’re looking for a mix of cultural and modern tourism I’d definitely check it out.

Final Thoughts
Lombok is an idyllic island, and with it being located just a short boat ride away from Bali, it’s a great destination to add to your Bali bucket list. It turned out to be one of my favourite islands when travelling around South East Asia, and I’d highly recommend exploring it yourself.
One of the activities I loved in Lombok is hiking Mount Rinjani. It allows you to fully immerse in nature whilst seeing some of the most incredible views.
As you can probably tell, Lombok has an incredible selection of accommodation options available in some stunning locations. This can make it hard to pinpoint where exactly to stay in Lombok.
