Set on the east coast of Bali, Candidasa is a favourite for tourists looking to get away from the usual spots in Bali for a beach break.
Though it goes by the name “Candidasa”, its real name is Segkidu Village. It has a more classic village vibe, with plenty of places to enjoy picturesque, rural landscapes.
Despite the chilled-out nature of the area, there’s a whole variety of things to do in Candidasa!
Go snorkelling, grab a tasty brunch, hike up a hill for amazing views, or see some historic temple architecture – you are in for a treat. Check these out!
Things to Do in Candidasa
Looking to get away from the crowds for something a little different? These things to do in Candidasa will get you away from the crowds and into the beautiful, beachside village.
Explore Pura Candidasa
Visiting one of the signature, beautiful Hindu temples is one of the top things to do in Candidasa. Pura Candidasa is a water temple dedicated to the island’s fertility goddess.
The picturesque temple can be found just across from a lagoon on the slopes of a hillside. It is not as grand or extravagant as some other temples that can be found in Bali, but it is a super traditional, religious place where you can learn about the island’s unique culture.
Many locals come to pray for the good fortune and health of their future children. It’s also where people come to pray for rain.
Kick Back at Pantai Pasir Putih
Pantai Pasir Putih, also known as White Sand Beach, is a stunning place to spend a day on the shore, dipping into the water and soaking in the sun. The brilliant, clean white sands are a stark contrast to the darker, dirtier sands of Canggu or Seminyak. Trimmed with lush palm trees, it is a super picturesque place.
In the past, Pantai Pasir Putih was just a quiet spot for local fishermen and their boats. Today, it’s something of a tourist draw (though it still feels like a well kept secret).
You’ll find a slew of local warungs edging the beachside, as well as bars and shops where you can pick up a souvenir or two. That’s if you can get yourself away from the water and sand.
Spend time sunning, swimming in the sea or snorkelling (there’s rental places nearby). It’s one of the best beaches in Bali for a reason!
Enjoy a Meal at Vincent’s
It may not be a crowded tourist hotspot, but you can still find some really great food in Candidasa.
Vincent’s is an enticing eatery, and the best place to wine and dine in east Bali. Spread over a collection of open-air rooms that dot a tropical garden, it is a super peaceful place to enjoy a long lunch or dinner.
The lunch menu is made up of a choice of Balinese classics, as well as hunger-inducing freshly made sandwiches and salads. As the evening draws in, live jazz music fires up around 7 p.m. accompanying your tasty meal with chill vibes.
Stroll Around the Lotus Lagoon
Lotus Lagoon is one of the best-known local landmarks and a great, quick thing to do in Candidasa when you have nothing else to do.
The serene spot is basically a small lake that’s dotted with green lily pads. If you come in the right season, you’ll be treated to a vista of delicate pink lotus blossoms.
It’s not just a treat for the eyes, but the nose as well, as the aroma of the sweet flowers fills the air. Find a spot to sit for a while, watch the dragonflies skim the top of the water, and simply chill.
If you’ve had bit of a crazy day, a chill moment at the lily pond is a great way to unwind.

Visit Bugbug Village
Bugbug Village in Karangasem is one of the oldest, traditional villages in the area that still has lots of its traditional architecture. A great place to be able to immerse in the culture and beauty of the island, you can visit the village to find local life passing by and classic Balinese style.
Kept pretty intact compared to other more modernised Balinese villages, Bugbug upholds many of its traditional ceremonies and celebrations that aren’t seen in other parts of the island. Get to know more about the area from the locals themselves, who will be more than happy to answer your questions and show you their way of life.
Surrounded by farmland and with peeks of Mount Agung in the background, you can get some truly incredible pictures at the village too!

Shop for Local Products at Alam Zempol
Alam Zempol
Everyone loves an opportunity to shop! Even when you are having a peaceful weekend away on the east coast of the island.
Alam Zempol is a cute little boutique shop that sells lots of different locally made, natural toiletries. With everything from hand soaps to perfumes, hair care and lash growing serums, you can find some amazing souvenirs and luxe little extras for your daily routine.
Totally affordable and made on the island, Alam Zempol is definitely worth a stop during your stay in Candidasa.
Watch the Sunrise at Bukit Asah Desa Bugbug
The stunning viewpoint Bukit Asah Desa Bugbug is set on a rocky platform, jutting out into the sea. From the highpoint you can look back over some incredible scenery of the ocean and island.
Sure sunsets are cool and all, but sunrises in Bali are truly unforgettable. From Bukit Asah Desa Bugbug you can have a truly magical sunrise view. Wake up a little earlier than usual and head to the cliffside to see the world come alive. Of all the things to do in Candidasa, this is by far one of my faves.

Linger Over a Long Lunch at Ocean Terrace
Even if you don’t plan to stay at the Candi Beach Hotel, you need to be sure to stop by for a delicious meal at one of their beachfront restaurants.
There are 3 dining options in the resort – Ocean Terrace, Biru Restaurant and Basil Restaurant & Pool Bar. All overlooking the ocean with impressive menus and a comfortable ambiance, it is a great place to have a tasty meal with your loved ones – or solo!
If you are craving something delectable, these restaurants won’t disappoint.
Get a Traditional Balinese Massage
What better thing to do in Candidasa than really submerge into relaxation with a traditional Balinese massage in one of the local, street side spas.
The whole main street of Candidasa features quaint, local run spas where you can have a really authentic Balinese massage. Firm and strong, any kinks or aches in your body will be taken care of by the talented masseuses.
Take a moment out from exploring the area and just totally unwind and relax.
Spend Time Relaxing at Candidasa Beach
There’s nothing more blissful to do in Candidasa than spend a day lounging and soaking in the sun.
Candidasa beach is a long crescent of golden sand, bright blue water and swaying palms. It is an idyllic, sun-kissed spot to hang out for the day. Dip your toes in the water of the ocean and enjoy the laid-back vibes.
If you want something a bit more exciting than just lounging around on the sand, grab a snorkel and explore life below the waves.
The water is teeming with colourful fish and coral formations. Once you’ve had your fill, pick from one of the local warung and enjoy some easygoing beach bites.
Walk Up to Sang Hyang Ambu Gate
Up a towering flight of stairs is the beautiful Sang Hyang Ambu Gate which was built in October 2022. Set in the hillsides of Candidasa, as you twist and turn along the jungle roads you come across the huge attraction, which is also home to some mischievous monkeys.
A grand entrance to Gumang Temple, it is mandatory to be modestly dressed even when just visiting the staircase and gate. As you reach the top you will find outstanding natural views of the surrounding hillside and jungles, out until the ocean.
Perfect for some beautiful pictures and enjoying a bit of Balinese culture, add Sang Hyang Ambu Gate to you Candidasa to-do list.

Take in Views of Candidasa from Guungan Hill
If you’re a sucker for views, make sure to put Guungan Hill on your Candidasa itinerary.
Overlooking the town, this elevated slice of hillside is a paradise spot for some truly amazing verdant and ocean views. Getting there requires some effort – namely, a sweaty walk up a zig-zagging path (it takes around 20 minutes in total to reach the top).
Once you’re up on the grassy cliff, you’ll be treated to 180-degree views of the coast, as well as vistas inland towards the mountains. Some people opt to climb up here for sunrise, but it can be a little tricky in the dark (not to mention slippy underfoot) so be careful if you choose to do this!

There is a whole world waiting for you to discover with colourful fish, marine life and interesting coral.
Grab your, or rent, a snorkel and head into the ocean for a memorable experience. Snorkelling in Bali is an experience like no other.
If you are looking for something a little more thrilling, try out a diving expedition with a local dive centre!
